E-waste recycler due diligence: an evidence checklist
Check credentials, material handling and records before relying on a recycling claim.
Verify the counterparty
Confirm the legal entity, facility location, relevant registration and permitted activity through the current official source. Keep a dated copy of the checks. Similar business names or an attractive certificate are insufficient evidence that the party and facility handling your material match the registered entity.
Follow the material and records
Record the material type, quantity, dispatch details, receiving party and supporting documents. Reconcile weights and investigate differences. Where downstream processing is involved, understand who performs it and what evidence is available. Do not treat a transport receipt as equivalent to evidence of completed recycling.
Set a review and exception process
Assign an owner for credential expiry, missing acknowledgements, quantity differences and unsupported claims. Include record access, permitted activities and escalation responsibilities in the commercial scope. Retain evidence for subsequent review, and recheck credentials at the relevant transaction or review point rather than relying indefinitely on an onboarding file.
