Plastic packaging EPR: a preparation checklist
Start with your business role and the relevant packaging categories, then assemble records for the applicable filing cycle.
Identify the entity and packaging
List the legal entity, registration details, products and packaging placed on the market. Separate packaging by material, category and financial year using supplier specifications and purchase or sales records. Document assumptions where product-level data is incomplete. Reconcile imports, domestic procurement and exclusions with supporting records; do not apply a generic quarterly checklist to every obligation.
Build a traceable evidence file
For each reported quantity, retain a source record, unit conversion, calculation and reviewer. Check recycler credentials and the relevant portal record before relying on a certificate or invoice. Keep transport records and reconciliation notes together so a reviewer can follow the chain from a quantity in the filing to its supporting document.
Prepare and review the submission
Use the current CPCB rules and official EPR portal instructions to confirm scope, reporting period and required attachments. Assign an owner for unresolved differences and a reviewer independent of the preparer. Save the submitted version and acknowledgement. Where eligibility, exemptions or target calculation is unclear, seek a case-specific review before filing.
